International Driving Permit in Morocco: Mandatory for Car Rental in 2026?

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) authorizes foreign tourists to drive in Morocco. Your national license is generally recognized for a maximum period of three months. Beyond that, a Moroccan license is required. For short-term rental, your national license is therefore sufficient in most cases.

• France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, UK (United Kingdom): Your national license (credit card format) is accepted. An international driving permit is not required for stays under three months.

• Canada, USA (United States): Your national license is recognized. We strongly recommend an official sworn translation, or an international driving permit. This will facilitate controls.

• Other countries (outside EU/UK/CH/US/CA): An international driving permit is often essential. Always check bilateral agreements between Morocco and your country.

• In France (ANTS): The application is made online via the ANTS website. The processing time is approximately 15 days, and the procedure is free. Anticipate your request well before your departure.

• In Belgium: Contact your municipal administration. The processing time is a few days, and the cost is modest.

• In Switzerland: The application is made to your cantonal vehicle office. The permit is usually issued quickly, within a few days.

• In Canada: Contact the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). Issuance is quick, often the same day or within a few days.

• In the USA: Obtain it from the American Automobile Association (AAA) or the American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA).
